Depending on how you use Top Cab, we may collect and process the following categories of personal information.

account identifier;
profile information;
authentication information;
Google account information where Google Sign-In is used;
Apple account information where Sign in with Apple is used; and
other information required to create and maintain your Top Cab account.

4.2 Booking and Journey Information
When you request or undertake a journey, we may process information including:
pickup location;
destination;
requested date and time;
booking details;
journey status;
assigned driver;
journey history;
route information;
fare and payment information;
booking notes; and
other information provided in connection with a booking.
4.3 Customer Location Data
The Top Cab Customer App may access a customer’s location through the device’s location services when location functionality is required to provide services such as identifying a pickup location, displaying the customer’s position on a map or facilitating a booking.
The Top Cab Customer App does not collect the customer’s location in the background when the app is not being used.
Customer location access is limited to relevant location-based functionality while the Customer App is in use, subject to permissions granted by the customer on their device.
Customers may manage location permissions through their device settings. Restricting location access may affect certain location-dependent features of the Top Cab service.
4.4 Driver Location Data
The Top Cab Driver App accesses location information through the driver’s device location services.
Location information may be used with Google Maps Platform services for mapping, routing, navigation and dispatch functionality and may be transmitted to Top Cab’s systems as necessary to provide these services.
The Driver App collects and transmits location information in the background only while the driver’s status is set to available for work.
This enables Top Cab to:
identify available drivers;
determine driver proximity to bookings and pickup locations;
dispatch and allocate work;
provide mapping, routing and navigation functionality;
provide journey-related information;
maintain live booking and journey updates; and
support the safe, reliable and efficient provision of transport services.
Background location functionality allows these services to continue when the Driver App is running in the background or is not actively displayed on the device screen.
When a driver is not available for work, Top Cab does not use the Driver App to collect background location information for this purpose.
Drivers can control their work availability through the Driver App.
4.5 Device and Technical Information
We may automatically collect technical information including:
device type;
operating system;
application version;
device identifiers;
Firebase identifiers;
push notification tokens;
IP address;
diagnostic information;
application performance information;
crash information;
error logs; and
app integrity or attestation information.
This information may be used to maintain security, diagnose technical problems, prevent misuse and improve the reliability and performance of the Top Cab platform.
5. Payments
Payments made through Top Cab are processed using Stripe.
Stripe may process information required to complete and manage payments, including payment card and transaction information.
Top Cab does not need to receive or store complete payment card details where those details are processed directly by Stripe.
Top Cab may receive transaction-related information from Stripe, including payment status, transaction identifiers, amounts, refunds and limited payment-method information required for accounting, customer support and transaction management.
Stripe may process personal information in accordance with its own privacy policy and applicable data protection obligations.
6. OTP and Account Verification
Top Cab does not use SMS for OTP verification within the application.
Where an OTP is required, it is generated by the Top Cab system and displayed within the application.
No third-party SMS provider is used for this functionality.
7. Google Maps Platform Services
Top Cab uses Google Maps Platform technologies, which may include:
Google Maps;
Google Places;
Google Geocoding; and
Google Directions.
These services are used for functions including:
displaying maps;
address searches;
identifying pickup and destination locations;
route calculation;
routing and navigation;
driver location functionality; and
displaying journey information.
When these services are used, information such as location coordinates, addresses and search queries may be transmitted to Google as necessary to provide the relevant functionality.
Google may process information in accordance with its own applicable privacy terms and policies.
8. Firebase Services
Top Cab uses Google Firebase services to support the operation, security and reliability of its applications.
Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM)
Used to provide push notifications. FCM may process device tokens and notification-related information required to deliver notifications.
Firebase Realtime Database
Used to provide live functionality such as booking and journey status updates. Depending on the functionality being used, it may process booking status and location information.
Firebase Crashlytics
Used for crash and error reporting. Crashlytics may process technical information including:
device information;
application information;
crash logs;
stack traces;
diagnostic information; and
user or application identifiers where applicable.
This information helps us identify faults, investigate crashes and improve application reliability.
Firebase Authentication
Firebase Authentication may be used for anonymous authentication or database-access purposes and may process a Firebase User ID (“UID”) and related authentication information.
Firebase App Check
Firebase App Check is used to help protect Top Cab systems against unauthorised applications, abuse and fraudulent access.
It may process device and application attestation tokens and related technical information.
9. Notifications
Top Cab uses Notifee to support local and foreground notification functionality.
Notifee processes notification content on the user’s device as necessary to display application notifications.
Push notification delivery may also involve Firebase Cloud Messaging.
Users can manage notification permissions through their device settings.
10. How We Use Personal Information
We may use personal information where necessary to:
create and manage accounts;
provide booking and transport services;
connect customers with drivers;
identify pickup and destination locations;
allocate bookings to available drivers;
provide routing and navigation functionality;
provide journey and booking updates;
process payments and refunds;
communicate with customers and drivers;
provide customer support;
authenticate users;
provide push notifications;
operate maps and location functionality;
maintain platform security;
prevent fraud, abuse or unauthorised access;
diagnose application errors and crashes;
improve application reliability and performance;
maintain appropriate business and accounting records;
resolve complaints or disputes;
comply with legal and regulatory requirements; and
establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
11. Legal Bases for Processing
Under UK GDPR, we must have a lawful basis for processing personal information.
Depending on the circumstances, we may rely on:
Performance of a Contract
We process information where necessary to provide services requested by you or perform our contractual obligations.
For example, booking, location and journey information may be necessary to arrange and provide a requested transport service.
Legitimate Interests
We may process information where necessary for our legitimate business interests, provided those interests are not overridden by your rights and freedoms.
These interests may include:
operating and improving the Top Cab service;
managing driver availability and dispatch;
maintaining application security;
preventing fraud and misuse;
diagnosing technical problems;
managing customer service;
protecting our business; and
maintaining accurate operational records.
Legal Obligation
We may process information where required to comply with applicable law, regulatory requirements, taxation, accounting obligations, licensing requirements, court orders or lawful requests from public authorities.
Consent
Where applicable law requires consent for particular processing, we will request that consent.
Your device operating system may also ask you to grant permission before the Top Cab App can access certain device functions such as location or notifications.
You may withdraw consent or modify device permissions where applicable, although doing so may prevent certain app features from functioning correctly.
12. Driver Background Location
Because location information is fundamental to driver availability, dispatch and journey functionality, drivers should understand when background location processing occurs.
The Top Cab Driver App may access and transmit a driver’s location in the background only while the driver has chosen to make themselves available for work.
The location information originates from the driver’s device location services and may be used with Google Maps Platform and Top Cab systems for mapping, routing, navigation, dispatch and journey-management purposes.
This allows Top Cab to determine which drivers are available and their proximity to potential bookings even when the Driver App is operating in the background.
When the driver’s status is not set to available for work, Top Cab does not use the Driver App to collect background location information for this purpose.
Drivers who do not wish their location to be processed for work-availability purposes should change their status so that they are no longer shown as available for work.
13. Sharing Personal Information
Top Cab does not sell personal information.
We may share personal information with service providers and third parties where necessary to operate Top Cab, provide requested services, comply with legal obligations or protect our legitimate interests.
These providers may include:
Stripe for payment processing;
Google Maps Platform services for maps, places, geocoding, routing and directions;
Google Sign-In;
Apple Sign-In;
Google Firebase services;
Firebase Cloud Messaging;
Firebase Realtime Database;

Where service providers process personal information on our behalf, we expect them to handle that information appropriately and in accordance with applicable data protection requirements.
14. Server Hosting and Data Storage
The Top Cab backend/server infrastructure is hosted using Linode by Akamai.
The primary Top Cab server location is London, United Kingdom.
Customer and driver information stored directly within the Top Cab backend infrastructure is therefore hosted in the London region.
Some third-party services used by Top Cab, including Google/Firebase, Apple and Stripe, may process information using infrastructure located outside the United Kingdom.
15. International Data Transfers
Some third-party technology providers used by Top Cab operate internationally.
As a result, certain personal information may be processed in or transferred to countries outside the United Kingdom.
Where personal information is transferred internationally, Top Cab will take appropriate steps as required by applicable UK data protection law to ensure an appropriate level of protection.
Depending on the circumstances, safeguards may include UK adequacy regulations, approved contractual safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, or another legally recognised transfer mechanism.
16. Data Retention
We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes for which it was collected, including providing our services and satisfying legal, regulatory, accounting, taxation, insurance, licensing, dispute-resolution and reporting requirements.
Different categories of information may therefore be retained for different periods.
Where information is no longer required, we will delete, anonymise or otherwise securely dispose of it, subject to any continuing legal or regulatory retention requirements.
Deleting a Top Cab account does not necessarily require us to immediately erase information that we are legally required or lawfully entitled to retain.
17. Account Deletion
Both customers and drivers can permanently delete their Top Cab accounts directly from within their respective applications.
Following account deletion, Top Cab will delete or anonymise personal information associated with the account unless retention of particular information is necessary for:
compliance with a legal obligation;
accounting or taxation requirements;
transport or licensing record requirements;
fraud prevention;
resolving an existing dispute;
establishing, exercising or defending legal claims; or
another lawful purpose permitted under applicable data protection law.
18. Data Security

These measures may include access controls, authentication mechanisms, infrastructure security, application integrity checks and other technical safeguards.
However, no internet-based or electronic information system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

Transport services may involve children or young people where bookings are lawfully arranged by parents, guardians, schools, local authorities, language schools or other responsible organisations.
Where personal information relating to a child is processed in connection with such transport services, Top Cab will process that information only where necessary and in accordance with applicable law.

Where a third party acts as an independent data controller, its processing of personal information is governed by its own privacy practices.
We encourage users to review the relevant privacy information provided by those services.
